Projects > Innards and Upwards: A San Francisco Wunderkammer / 2016-2018

The San Francisco Wunderkammer was originally constructed during a four-month residency at SF Recology AIR 2015/16. It is made exclusively from material pulled from the San Francsico Waste Stream (The Dump), and features 150 years of wooden architectural and home detritus that forms the cabinet, and up to 27 doors that open to reveal curious vignettes of discarded cultural ephemera. It is a performative piece that requires opening and closing no more than three doors at a time either through timed intervals by gallery staff or an active attendant that continuously moves across the piece opening and closing doors. Three iterations of the Wunderkammer have been installed at different locations.
