Creativity Explored Artists / 2015
I was invited for a one month residency at
Creativity Explored, an Art Center in San Francisco for adults with developmental disabilities. As someone who feels incredibly inhibited working in front of people, I asked artists to be my teacher and show me how they are able to sit down each day in an open studio with visitors wondering through and "just do" their work. Each artist chose the materials that we would work with as we sat across from each other to draw portraits of one another.
Freed from choosing my own materials and just jumping into the work with each artist, I was also freed from inhibiting expectations, while getting to know the artists and different modes of working. I followed the self assured pacing and mark making of each artist I worked with while still trying to maintain my own hand.
