MacDowell Colony / New Hampshire / 2021
In 2021 I set out across the country to collect cultural ephemera I found along the way to continue building the idea for a large immersive installation of hanging Time Lines to represent many diverse regions across the continental United States.
The challenge was to create 9'- 12' hanging pieces from the regionally specific material I found, using only hand-bent 11 gauge wire connectors as the common element.
Over a six week residency at the MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire I built three Time Lines from handsewn baby dresses, sewing notions and baby cabinet photos from Portland, OR; Buoys and other boating ephemera washed up on Maine shores, and; farmhouse ephemera found in rural South Dakota.
Mapping, working with the materials at hand, and big stories in humble origins are ideas I continue to rumble with in this project.
